Day 5: Addendum

Ok, upon awaking we have realized we left two very important things out of the last entry.

1) While we were at the Bulldog, a man walked up to the bartender and ordered an Andygator (a local doppelbock which I tried later- very good) and a Bud Light (not so good), and told the bartender that he wanted them to go... Chrissie leaned into me while the bartender was pouring the taps into two plastic pint glasses and whispered "Do you think he's really going to take those out of the bar?" It was still daylight out. We waited and sure enough, the bartender passed over the beers which were then divvied up between the orderer and a friend and carried right out the front door. We asked the two bartenders (Joe the drummer of the Zydepunks was one of them) if that was allowed, and they said "Yeah, where the hell are you from?" They said a lot of out of towners love it, but it can get locals in trouble when they visit other cities with less free-thinking policemen. So we walked a block or two with a vodka-soda later that night. Just because we could.

2) Chrissie hurt herself putting her hair up. She had one hand pinned behind her head holding the pony-tail in place, and then used her teeth to try to pry the hairband off of her wrist. It popped and caught her across the forehead, leaving a good three inch welt straight up-and-down above her left eye. Her UF hat covered it up pretty well and it was gone by lunch-time, but I wanted you all to know.

Thanks for reading our short update!

  1. About the open container law: Its the same as in Key West so it shouldn't have been too surprising. I never think of this law unless I'm on a college campus, and even then its lenient (at least my campus was). Key West and New Orleans are very similar though, glad you guys are enjoying.

  2. I think it's a very good thing that we don't know the container law in Key West. That place is for the birds.
